Trudy Jacobson Presents: Lisa Song Sutton, Thriving Entrepreneur

Lisa Song Sutton

Some people are gifted with the ability to turn everything they touch into gold.
Lisa Song Sutton is one of those people.
Her list of accomplishments are so long (and growing), that we couldn’t even list any one business venture in the title for this article. We simply settled on “thriving entrepreneur”.
And for good reason. She has been succeeding in every venture she has undertaken, starting as an attorney, later becoming a pageant. Lisa has the title of both Miss Las Vegas and Miss Nevada, impressive feats of accomplishments. It’s part of the reason she had the confidence to go from a 9 to 5 job and into entrepreneurship.
“There’s a million different ways to do it [entrepreneurship], but the key is to actually just do it because if you don’t, you’re always left wondering,” Lisa said.
And she definitely “did it.”
Lisa The Entrepreneur and Her Path to Success
Her first business venture included two of Las Vegas’ most symbolic items, food and alcohol, in Sin City Cupcakes.
“I started my first venture with a partner and co-founder Danielle called Sin City Cupcakes. We started that truly on a whim. I didn’t know how to bake when we started the company. I just thought alcohol cupcakes sounded like a great idea,” Lisa said.

Sin City Cupcakes is a tourists’ delight, but she wasn’t satisfied yet. She then went on to acquire a real estate license. Lisa learned from the cupcake business that as long as she has the right partner and team, it will succeed. She then partnered up with a broker, and that business took off as well – but she wasn’t done yet – she moved onto the mailbox business.
“I have several locations of a mailbox rental pack and ship store called Ship Las Vegas. We’re an independent mailbox rental pack and ship store,” Lisa said.
An Entrepreneur Helping the Veteran Community
An already proven entrepreneur, she wanted to give back to other entrepreneurs and help them out, particularly entrepreneurs from the veteran community.
“I’m the general partner in a venture capital fund called The Veteran Fund. We invest in entrepreneurs who are veterans and military spouses,” Lisa said. “All of us truly share the same vision around wanting to help empower the veteran community in a very meaningful way.”
Lisa fully credits America with having the opportunity to accomplish so much. America gives every citizen the opportunity to start a business, build an empire and achieve great success. Lisa wants you to know that, too.
Lisa said, “You shouldn’t ever feel like, ‘oh because I’m scared to do something’ as a reason not to do it. It’s actually totally the reason that you should give it a try and do it.”

Trudy Jacobson Presents: Toni Brinker, One Community USA

Toni Brinker

One afternoon several years ago, Toni overheard a crowd marching outside her building chanting “What do you want? Dead cops! When do you want them? Right now!”
That’s when she picked up the phone and called some friends. She heard the same message several times – what are you going to do about it?
After going through that troubling experience, Toni knew our country was heading in the wrong direction. She pondered over how she could help reunite America, if at all. She eventually figured it out; start a nonprofit organization to help communities come together with One Community USA. But it wasn’t your run-of-the-mill organization. She knew she had to hit the road and get her message out.
“I met with every governor who would see me, every police chief who would see me, every victim of police violence that would see me. And every officer’s family that may have been killed by a community member – if they would sit down with me, I met with them as well,” Toni said.
Toni recognized that America was being torn apart by social issues. She knew something had to change or it would simply continue to get worse. So Toni started One Community USA with the vision that every neighborhood across the country is safe, secure and the local businesses are thriving. She won’t stop until every community is like that. Part of the strategy is to connect people within a community and help them work together for the sake of everyone there.
“We design programs around minority-owned business owners who have taken a leap of faith to go and get a loan to open up a business in an area of concentrated poverty,” Toni said. She continued, “When you can talk about things you can build a bridge of trust. When you build a bridge of trust, you create unity. When that happens, that one little shopping center now becomes safer.”
Local Law Enforcement is Vital to One Community USA
Toni understands that in order for a community to improve, they not only have to communicate as residents and business owners, they must incorporate government organizations as well, particularly the local law enforcement. It is law enforcement who responds to many emergencies and knowing members in the community can prove to be a vital part of being successful in law enforcement objectives.
“Over a three to five year period, I can show empirically, the value of law enforcement. I can show empirically the value of positive conversations,” Toni said. “I can also show you how the neighborhood goes from being slightly unsafe to safer. What we’re doing is stabilizing, revitalizing and then having economic development. That’s a win-win for everyone.”

Toni’s conviction to help America is moving full steam ahead. The growing organization has since expanded to include ten leaders who accomplish a variety of tasks for the nonprofit, and dozens of individuals on various advisory boards.
But she also knows nothing is possible without first responders.
“Those two groups, community and our frontline first responders… if we come together, we have a safer, stronger and better America,” Toni said.

Trudy Jacobson Presents: Dana DeFranco Of Battle Grounds Coffee Company

Dana Defranco

Dana and her husband Sal decided to enter the business world and open a coffee shop. But for Dana, it was more than just the coffee; it was also about service.
Dana grew up surrounded by family members who committed themselves to the service of others. Even her husband served in the United States military as a Navy SEAL.
It was important for her to enter a business that recreates the feeling of service to others, a coffee shop. She aptly named it Battle Grounds Coffee Company.
“[We] decided we needed a space where we could invite everybody to have an open conversation, a place where people can come out and hang out. So, when the idea of Battle Grounds Coffee came to life, it was built on that foundation of service to our community, to our customers, to the coffee we serve and to our country to continue that service, that mission- focus on what we could bring to that community,” Dana said.

Battle Grounds and the Pandemic
As many women who entered the small business world know, it wasn’t always a smooth ride. Their dedication and business savvy were tested with the onset of the covid pandemic.
They were forced to close the shop temporarily while restrictions were in place. Dana took a fulltime position at a local hospital in yet another extension of service to community.
Once she was able to reopen the coffee shop, she faced new challenges related to re-opening the business. What started out as a difficult challenge turned into a blessing in disguise.
“When we were ready to reopen, there were a lot of challenges. A lot of unknowns, a lot of changes and getting used to these changes. The silver lining to covid was it gave business owners the ability to change their direction, their style,” she said.

Dana’s experience with business ownership has been challenging and rewarding. Now she wants to encourage all women out there who are considering starting a business to go for it.
She made no false promises that it will be easy but assures women it’s worth it and that they can do it successfully.
“You have the confidence to do it, you know you do, or you wouldn’t be asking yourself ‘should I open this business.’ Just take that leap,” Dana said.
Very inspiring words.

Trudy Jacobson Presents: Jenilee Wirtz Of Carefree Boating

Jenilee Wertz

Jenilee Wirtz of Carefree Boating in Connecticut has fond childhood memories of boating with her family. She spent entire summer days out in the boat with her father, enjoying beautiful weather and creating lasting memories. Although her father has since passed away, Jenilee still carries with her those precious memories.
Now she wants to help create more memories, but not for her. She wants to help families everywhere build precious moments that will create lasting memories.
And she wants to do it with the one thing she is very passionate about – boating.
“Just that time that we spend out on the water. When it’s quiet and you’re out there and you’ve got a line in the water, that’s where the good stuff is. We’re constantly getting families out,” Jenilee said.
Jenilee combined her passion of boating and her ambition to succeed as a professional woman and entrepreneur. That’s why she created Carefree Boating. The membership-based boat club provides its members a boat to use without hassle and commitment. When you own a boat, you must wash, maintain, repair it and so on.
The Carefree Boating Industry
It’s a model Jenilee calls ‘boating without owning.’
Her dual goals of helping families build memories and building a business around boating he been very successful overall, but it wasn’t an easy venture.
Boating has always been a male-dominated industry, but that didn’t shy Jenilee away from pursuing her dreams. In fact, not only has she pursued her dreams of running a successful boating business, but she developed a passion along the way that wants more women to become empowered.
“It’s been such a thing, ‘the captain is the man, the woman is the first mate.’ We are making women captains, and I couldn’t be more proud of that. We have some women that have no boating experience… we bring that for them,” Jenilee said.
She empowers her female staff members to train as captains as well.
“When we are able to train a female captain and get her through our training process, and get her comfortable at the helm, that is one of the most empowering feelings ever,” Jenilee said.

Jenilee’s success as an entrepreneur and as a leader resonates with women everywhere. She is a model example to women that if you believe in something and you have the passion and drive, you can overcome any obstacle no matter what industry you are in.
Her final message to future female entrepreneurs everywhere is, “I would just say go for it. We get an idea that we’re scared to jump into it, you’ve got to take the first step and you’ve got to go for it. It’s ok if you fail, just go for it.”

Trudy Jacobson Presents: Carrie Beavers, Soldier Girl Coffee Company

Carrie Beavers

Carrie Beavers, Founder and CEO of Soldier Girl Coffee Company is also a veteran. However, she’s had her fair share of challenges while serving the U.S Army.
It gave her lasting life lessons, valuable experiences, and skills found nowhere else on the planet.
But it also left her with a massive battle against Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. Too many veterans ultimately lose their battle to PTSD. In fact, 22 veterans take their own lives per day. Carrie almost became a statistic – but thankfully fought her way out of it.
“I got PTSD in the military and suppressed it. I was in denial for a long time but once I faced the PTSD and reached out for help, the healing started,” Carrie said. She continued, “I reached out to an online veteran group for support and in doing so, I saw so many other veterans struggling too. Listening to them and supporting them gave me a purpose and I knew I had to find a way to make a difference in the veteran suicide rate.”

Carrie went from being paralyzed by the effects of PTSD to now the CEO of a fast-growing coffee company in only two years. Although she faces the challenges that come with a fast growing business, she never forgets where she came from and the path that brought her to where she is today.
Her Charitable Contributions From Soldier Girl Coffee
“I donate a portion of my sales to a variety of veteran programs that actively gets veterans out of isolation and with other veterans for charter fishing trips, hunting trips, etc. I want to help get them back in a team environment,” Carrie said.
Her focus is to continue building her business so she can keep giving back. Her business has grown immensely in only two years, and she credits her experience in the military for her unexpected success.
“I got my hard-working ethics from the military and learned to push myself more and more to succeed and get out of my comfort zone,” she said. “I run my business with integrity and thinking beyond my limiting beliefs – I broke so many of these limiting beliefs through the military.”
And Carrie believes that if you’re a woman, you don’t have to enlist in the military to become a successful entrepreneur. She says the power is inside of you already.
“You should be passionate about your business. Write a business plan. What is your mission or purpose for starting this business, what value are you providing? What is your story?” Carrie said. “Network with other business owners and learn from other successful people.”

Jen Satterly was on the brink of leaving her husband because of his PTSD, but decided to give up her career and dedicate her life to understand Post Traumatic Stress and later founded the All Secure Foundation.

Trudy Jacobson Presents: Jen Satterly, Founder – All Secure Foundation

Jen Satterly

Jen has left her successful film company and dedicated her life to understanding PTSD and helping those afflicted with it.
Trudy has experienced many challenges as a female entrepreneur- discrimination, personal setbacks, disrespect from male counterparts. But she fought through it all and still found success. Having gone through these challenges herself, she has decided to become a voice for women everywhere and a means to tell their incredible stories of overcoming adversity – and she has with www.TrudyJacobson.com.
Which is how she found Jen Satterly.
Trudy recognized the battles Jen has overcome and understood the level of commitment it took to get there. And now Trudy wants to share her experience, along with the experience of other women through her platform, Jacobson Talent Press. Her goal is to give these women a voice to let the world know the great things these, and other great women, are doing.
Jen Satterly’s Story
Post traumatic stress disorder is a debilitating condition. After living through a traumatic experience, whether it was a one-time event, or recurring events (such as those found in military service), it will certainly change a person.
No one sees that more clearly than the spouse who’s living with a person who has PTSD.
And that is Jen Satterly’s story.
Jen is the spouse of a former Delta Force veteran who spent over 20 years in the special operations unit. Her husband, Tom, was involved in over a thousand combat missions. It was no surprise that he left the battlefield with some mental and emotional scars.
And Jen dealt with it all.

Jen was a videographer and owner of a film company over a decade ago. Like Trudy, Jen was independent, strong, and always took life by the horns. But that didn’t mean she was invincible.
At the time, Jen was working alongside Tom filming him and other veterans conduct military-style training exercises.
As the two worked together, they grew close and eventually began dating. Throughout the relationship, she began to notice that Tom and other veterans were exhibiting a lot of the same negative behaviors; angry outbursts, high-risk behavior, impatience, excessive drinking and so on.
She became accustomed to the behaviors and learned to live with them despite knowing in her heart that they weren’t healthy attributes.
“Jen reminded me of the people I had in my life that weren’t always a positive influence. I have moved on from most of them. This is why Jen’s story is so impactful and inspirational. She found a way to manage the people around her,” Trudy added.
But it wasn’t until the night of Tom and Jen’s wedding where everything reached a climax.
Tom was drinking heavily that evening – a sight Jen was somewhat used to. Towards the latter part of the evening, the two got into an argument. It wasn’t until the morning that her husband got the full scope of what occurred the night prior.
“When I showed him my bruised arms…his face, I’ll never forget. Shock, disgust, and embarrassment contorted his features. He jumped out of bed and fell to his knees in front of me. ‘Please God, please tell me it wasn’t me that did that to you,’” Jen said.
Jen had never experienced anything near that in their relationship. After reflecting on the experience, she gave serious consideration to annulling the marriage.
This is a part of the story that hit home with Trudy. Having been focused so long on her business ventures, her marriage paid a price for it. Trudy also nearly had her marriage end, but like Jen, she found a way through it.

Jen’s Life Changed That Night
Jen chose to stay. Part of her decision was understanding that her husband, as well as countless veterans out there, are struggling with PTSD. Being the fighter that she is, she didn’t want to walk out on him and let him struggle alone.
She then gave up her successful award-winning film company and both her and Tom decided to dedicate their lives to understanding PTSD.
“The amount of strength Jen has exuded is a source of inspiration for not only me, but women all over the world. This is why I wanted to tell Jen’s story – to help women learn how strong they can be if they chose to be,” Trudy said.
Once Jen dove into learning about PTSD, things started to make sense.
Jen said, “I started to understand why Tom would unconsciously switch lanes under overpasses to avoid snipers or move away from roadkill because one too many times the terrorists had used roadkill to hide bombs. He didn’t think, he reacted.”
But it wasn’t an easy road learning about PTSD. Despite Tom getting additional treatment and counseling, it was a long, slow process. During which time Jen had to challenge him on occasion.
“This is a very dangerous game to play with someone who can kill me in a single move, someone who in a fit of rage is capable of great acts of violence; others in his unit have killed their wives under similar situations,” Jen said.

But Jen continued to fight.
“This is the part of Jen’s story that was so inspiring to me. Knowing that there are realistic dangers but having the strength and courage to proceed anyway… that was raw and real – something all women should approach life with,” Trudy added.
Jen and Tom have since started the All Secure Foundation to help other veterans in need. She also created a subset nonprofit organization called Virago.
“This is why the All Secure Foundation created Virago, to support women who are in a relationship with either a military serviceman, veteran, or a first responder who is suffering from service-connected PTSD; everyone is welcome,” Jen said.
Trudy has really found a special woman in Jen. The two have a lot in common, but can still learn a lot from each other.
Jen Satterly is a testament to other great women out there and what it means to be dedicated to a cause. But she knows the work will never end and we know she will never quit.

Trudy Jacobson Presents: Theresa Sharpe, Manchester Cheesecake Company

Teresa Sharpe

“You can’t make cheesecakes.”
Those were the words that Theresa heard when the subject of making cheesecake came up between her and her boyfriend. Instead of bowing down and accepting defeat, she rose and stood up to the challenge.
“He challenged me to a recipe I had found. Once I started, I had to perfect it, so I made it a million times until it was perfect,” Theresa said.
Once she perfected the art of making cheesecake, Theresa started making them for her regular bartending customers. She went on to give them to her friends and family, all of whom were more than happy to pay her.
Once covid hit, her bar was forced to shut its doors. But as an entrepreneur, Theresa wasn’t going to sit around and wait for things to open back up.
“I started making the switch over to a business once covid hit and I had lost my job. If I don’t try to do this now, I’ll never do it because now I have the opportunity,” she said.
Theresa took her stimulus check and every bit of grit and determination, and with the help of her grandfather who offered her the space to make cheesecakes, she went live with the business in November 2020.
And it took off.
Buy this time, members in the community were already aware of her delicious cheesecakes and wanted a piece of the action, literally.
She hit the ground running and started pumping out large 10” cakes, which sold quickly.
But it wasn’t long before she hit her first major obstacle.

“I was getting ready for the Christmas round, and I actually caught Covid. I had about 35-40 cheesecakes that I threw away. I ruined about 20 people’s Christmas’ because they didn’t have their cheesecakes,” Theresa said.
With the same determination and entrepreneurialism she displayed in the beginning, she went back to the drawing board to come up with a new strategy.
Theresa developed the individual sized cheesecake, which were more convenient for customers and easier to sell. In just two months’ time, she increased production 400%!
Theresa now feels she has the answers to her previous struggles. She found a passion in making and selling cheesecakes, has more control of her life and is much happier. And now she wants other women to follow their paths to happiness.
“I encourage other women to do the same and just find that love and be able to make a living on it.”
Sound advice.

Rebecca Anne LoCicero

“Great American Women” Series To Honor and Empower Great Women Doing Great Things In America VERNON, CT, US, October 27, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Some women accidentally fall into the realization that they have an amazing opportunity to start a business doing something they love.
Accidentally finding her passion is what happened to Rebecca Anne LoCicero, Psychic Medium.
Before she found her calling as a psychic medium, she worked jobs at the mall and found that customers would naturally flock to her.
“I loved being with people and seeing everything that was going on. It was nice to be able to have a job where I purposefully got to talk to people.”
Next she decided to go to work at the Institute of Hair Design, learning how to do hair and nails. People started coming to her for the conversation and interactions, not just the beauty treatments. That’s how she discovered her true passion.
Being a psychic medium today, though, isn’t always easy and she knows some people don’t believe it, and even call it a mental illness.
But that doesn’t stop her from pursuing her dream.
Her advice to women is to pay attention to intuition and not let people tell you that you can’t do something.

Trudy Jacobson presents: Amber Hall, The Beauty Halls

amber hall business owner

Amber is the complete embodiment of what a true entrepreneur is; dedicated, motivated, ambitious. At just the tender age of 26, she owns and runs her own retail make-up and beauty business.
But it wasn’t a simple, and certainly not an easy path- especially considering she is a single mother.
As a woman with a love for beauty and a healthy appearance, Amber enrolled into Dermatology school to take up a specialty with injectables. But she was quickly thrown a considerable curve ball.
“When I was in school, they changed it where you had to be an RNP (registered nurse practitioner) which added two more years. As a new mother, I had some mom guilt, so I decided to drop out of nursing school,” Amber said.
She still pursued her passion and found a way to start her business and learn to master her craft. Much of what she learned was self-taught by way of Googling and how-to YouTube videos.
What’s even more impressive, she built her business from the ground up, with virtually no resources.
“I had absolutely no money when I started. I was waiting tables and as I made money, one night I’d pay bills and whatever I had left over, I’d go buy more supplies to run my business,” Amber said.
But the best of Amber’s business comes when she is able to help clients who are undergoing significant personal struggles, especially health related.
“When I have people that come in that have thyroid issues or cancer, a high drop of estrogen makes them lose their hair. They come to me and they’re like ‘I have nothing, I don’t feel like walking out of the house until I have a full face of make-up on.’” She continued, “I come in and do a procedure that takes about two hours and makes them happy, makes their lives easier.”
Amber does have people question her experience due to her age, but for those clients she does work for, they couldn’t be happier.
She accomplished a lot by following some golden rules.
“Just remember that life does not owe you anything, you get what you put out,” Amber said.
She credits most of her success from meditation and manifesting. Manifesting is knowing what you want in life, setting goals, and repeatedly thinking about strategies to help you achieve your goals.
“Once I really knocked down and read some books and figured out this whole place is of energy and if you’re not putting in the work, you’re not showing up, and you’re not waking up every day on a mission, life isn’t going to give it back to you,” she said.
Amber is a truly inspiring success story.
